Nawal EL MOUTAWAKEL elected ISSA Vice-President for the 2026–2029 term

Mrs Nawal EL MOUTAWAKEL has been elected Vice-President of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA), representing Africa and Latin America, for the 2026–2029 term, during the 15th ISSA General Assembly, held on Saturday, 12 September 2026, in Taif, Saudi Arabia.

The Electoral General Assembly also confirmed HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal Al Saud for a further term as President of ISSA. Mr Gennadiy GOLOVKIN of Kazakhstan was elected Vice-President representing Asia and Europe.

All candidates for the Executive Board were elected unopposed, reflecting broad consensus among the Association’s 57 member countries on its leadership for the 2026–2029 term.

This new responsibility further adds to Mrs Nawal EL MOUTAWAKEL’s distinguished record of service within international sports organisations. Currently Vice-President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and an IOC Member since 1998, she has held a number of senior positions within the Olympic Movement, including a previous term as IOC Vice-President from 2012 to 2016 and Chair of the Coordination Commission for the Olympic Games Rio 2016.

Olympic champion in the 400m hurdles at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games, Mrs Nawal EL MOUTAWAKEL has built a longstanding record of service to sport and the Olympic Movement, both nationally and internationally.

Her election as ISSA Vice-President for the 2026–2029 term marks a new chapter in this distinguished journey and further strengthens Morocco’s representation within international sports governing bodies.
