Water Skiing: Kamil BELMRAH crowned African Champion
Morocco continues to assert its progress on the international water skiing scene with the title won by Kamil BELMRAH, crowned 2026 African Champion (overall) following the championships held from April 2 to 5 at the Von Bach Dam in Namibia. This edition of the African Championships, organized under the auspices of the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IWWF), brought together athletes from several countries across the continent, competing in slalom, tricks, and jump events.
At just 21 years old, the Moroccan skier was also awarded the title of African Skier of the Year, marking a double continental achievement.
This title comes as part of a steadily progressing career. In 2021, Kamil BELMRAH made history by becoming the first African to win the U17 slalom title at the Europe-Africa Championships. He later confirmed his potential with a bronze medal at the Europe-Africa U21 Championships in 2023, followed by a 4th place finish at the U21 World Championships in 2025, an unprecedented result for an African athlete.
During the 2026 edition, held in a highly competitive context, Kamil BELMRAH established himself at the highest level, particularly in slalom, the flagship discipline of water skiing.
With this new continental title, Morocco confirms its growing presence in the discipline and strengthens its position among Africa’s leading water skiing nations.
